Artist Biography
My name is Junghwa Lee. I was born 1971 in Kang Won do, South Korea, known for its famous Potato Rock (Gamjabawe) and beautiful water falls. As an elementary school student, my family moved to Seoul my parents desired an excellent education for me and my siblings.
After graduating from college in 1994 witha degree in feminine culture, I became employed at Navis Gallery in Kang Nam, a small town north of Seoul. While working at Navis Gallery, Junghwa was introduced to the art of Sukuen Park. One painting in particular caught my eye. The colors were bright and his skill was unique and very creative. Even though I wasn't an artist at this time, Sukuen Park's style left a lasting impression and I credit him with influencing my art today.
My parents have also greatly influenced my work. My father was a calligraphy instructor and my mother sacrificed for her family. Me and my husband got married and moved to the United States where my children grew up. I also began to watch youtube videos and became a self-taught artist.
As I strolled through my neighborhood observing the various landscapes and studying art books from library. Through this process I began to realize there are many forms of art.
I believe everyone can be an artist and share their gifts and creativity with one another. Most of all we can express our internal life as we experience suffering, loss , and joy, and delight together. I hope that through this expression our hearts will become peaceful and our community will be happy and generous within our lives.
